Qatar Engages in GCC Food Security Committee Discussion

On Thursday, Qatar participated in the Ministerial Committee for Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) via videoconference. This meeting aimed to enhance collaborative efforts among the GCC nations regarding food security and agricultural practices.

Qatar was represented by His Excellency Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipality, Eng. Ali bin Mohammed Al Ali.

Strengthening Food Security in the Gulf

During the session, officials discussed improving cooperative efforts within strategic sectors in the region. The discussions were in keeping with the outcomes of the 19th Consultative Meeting of their Majesties and Highnesses, the GCC leaders.

The agenda included reviewing strategies to bolster strategic food reserves, optimize supply chain operations, and facilitate food commodity movement across GCC borders, all aiming to solidify the overall food security framework in the region.

Emphasizing Coordination for Food Security

In his remarks, HE Eng. Ali bin Mohammed Al Ali stressed that the dynamic regional and international contexts necessitate enhanced alignment and cooperative frameworks among GCC countries.

He highlighted the crucial role of food security as a cornerstone for overall stability and the recent events that have underscored the need to unite and prepare effectively for various challenges.

Advancing a Robust Gulf Food Security Strategy

The Undersecretary noted that this meeting contributes significantly to the creation of a unified Gulf food security strategy. He underscored the ambition to construct a system that is resilient and sustainable, further empowering GCC nations and enhancing food security for their populations.
