Raj Kundra Interrogated in ₹60-Crore Fraud Case Silpa Not Summoned

Raj Kundra Interrogated in ₹60-Crore Fraud Case Silpa Not Summoned

Post by : Raman

Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) recorded the statement of businessman Raj Kundra, husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, in connection with an alleged ₹60-crore fraud case. The interrogation took place on Monday and lasted more than five hours. To maintain confidentiality and avoid media attention, Kundra’s statement was recorded at a secret location, according to officials.

EOW officers stated that Kundra may be summoned again next week for further questioning, as many more witnesses still need to be verified before the next round of interrogation.

Case Background

The ₹60-crore cheating case involves allegations that Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, along with some unidentified individuals, cheated businessman Deepak Kothari, 60, who is a director at Lotus Capital Finance Services, a non-banking financial company. The complaint alleges that the couple misappropriated ₹60.4 crore through a loan-cum-investment agreement involving their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.

EOW officials are still gathering evidence in the case. While Raj Kundra has been questioned, actress Shilpa Shetty has not yet been summoned as a co-accused. Police officials have stated that they will only proceed with her questioning once sufficient evidence is collected.

Lookout Circulars Issued

Earlier this month, Mumbai Police issued Lookout Circulars (LOCs) against both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra. An LOC is used by authorities to monitor the movements of an individual and prevent them from fleeing the country. Immigration and border officials are alerted to keep a watch for the individuals named in the circular.

The LOCs indicate that the investigation is still ongoing, and the authorities are taking precautionary steps to ensure that the accused remain within India while the probe continues.

Raj Kundra’s Professional and Personal Background

Raj Kundra, 50, is a well-known businessman in India. He has previously been involved in multiple ventures, including film production, sports, and digital content. Recently, he ventured into acting with the Punjabi film Mehar, which also stars Geeta Basra.

Kundra is married to actress Shilpa Shetty. The couple tied the knot on November 22, 2009, and have two children: a son named Viaan, born in May 2012, and a daughter named Samisha, born through surrogacy in February 2020. Shilpa Shetty currently serves as a judge on the reality television show Super Dancer Chapter 5.

Despite the ongoing legal investigation, Shilpa Shetty recently posted a birthday wish for her husband on Instagram. She wrote, “My darling Cookie. On this milestone birthday, I pray you always stay blessed and protected. We’re so lucky to have you in our lives. Wishing you miles of smiles, great health, and success. Rab MEHAR kare.” She also shared pictures of Kundra from Shri Sukhmani Sahib path, which was performed at their home.

Investigation Details

The Economic Offences Wing has been actively investigating the alleged fraud. According to police officials, Raj Kundra was cooperative during the five-hour interrogation. The EOW team asked detailed questions regarding the financial transactions and the operations of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.

The authorities are also examining all relevant documents, agreements, and communications to verify whether the allegations of cheating are valid. Witness statements will play a crucial role in building a complete picture of the case.

The investigation is meticulous because of the high-profile nature of the accused. Since both Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty are public figures, authorities are taking extra precautions to ensure that the process is transparent, lawful, and free from undue influence.

Role of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd

The fraud case reportedly involves Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a now-defunct company owned by Raj Kundra. The company had entered into a loan-cum-investment agreement with Deepak Kothari of Lotus Capital Finance Services. Kothari alleges that the couple and others misused the funds provided under this agreement, resulting in a loss of ₹60.4 crore.

Authorities are investigating whether the company’s transactions were lawful and whether there were intentional misrepresentations that led to the alleged financial loss. The EOW is also probing if any other individuals associated with the company played a role in the alleged fraud.

Legal Implications

If found guilty, Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty could face serious legal consequences. Under Indian law, cheating and financial fraud are punishable with imprisonment, fines, and other legal penalties.

The Economic Offences Wing is tasked with ensuring that white-collar crimes and frauds are thoroughly investigated. In cases involving large sums of money, the investigation can take several months to ensure that all evidence is properly verified and all witnesses are examined.

Public and Media Attention

The case has attracted significant media attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused. Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty are both prominent public figures, which has led to widespread coverage in newspapers, television, and digital media.

Despite the attention, the police have taken measures to ensure that the investigation remains confidential. Kundra’s statement was recorded away from media glare, and authorities are carefully controlling the information released to the public.

Shilpa Shetty’s Role

As of now, Shilpa Shetty has not been summoned by the EOW. Officials have clarified that they are still gathering evidence before calling her in for questioning. She is named as a co-accused in the case, but her involvement will be assessed only after reviewing financial records, communications, and witness statements.

Shilpa Shetty has maintained her professional commitments and shared personal moments, such as wishing her husband on his birthday, showing that she continues to manage her public life while cooperating with authorities.

Family Life Amid Investigation

Despite the ongoing investigation, the couple continues to prioritize their family. Their children, Viaan and Samisha, are reportedly unaware of the complex legal issues surrounding their parents. The couple’s focus on family has been highlighted by social media posts showing celebrations, prayers, and milestones.

This dual life, balancing high-profile professional commitments with personal and legal challenges, illustrates the pressures faced by celebrities when private matters become public news.

The interrogation of Raj Kundra by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing in connection with a ₹60-crore fraud case is a significant development in one of India’s high-profile financial investigations. While he has been questioned, the investigation continues, and Shilpa Shetty has not yet been summoned.

Authorities are carefully gathering evidence, verifying witnesses, and ensuring that the legal process is followed meticulously. The case highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, and proper investigation procedures in dealing with allegations of financial fraud.

As the investigation unfolds, the public and media continue to follow the developments closely, awaiting updates on further interrogations, potential charges, and legal outcomes for both Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty.

The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the extent of the alleged fraud and the accountability of those involved, while the couple manages their personal and professional commitments amid a high-profile legal battle.
