India’s young boxer Jaismine Lamboria has created history by winning the World Championships gold medal in the featherweight (57kg) category. She defeated Julia Szeremeta of Poland, the Paris Olympics silver medallist, in the final match on Saturday night, September 13, 2025.

The 24-year-old Jaismine, who was competing in her third World Championships, fought with confidence and smart tactics to earn a 4-1 split decision victory. The judges’ scorecards read 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 28-29, 29-28 in her favour. With this win, she became the ninth Indian boxer to be crowned world champion, joining an elite group that includes legends like Mary Kom, Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, and Saweety Boora.

How the Final Unfolded

The match began cautiously, with both fighters testing each other. Julia Szeremeta, the shorter but faster Polish boxer, managed to win the first round 3-2, darting in and out with quick punches and sharp defense.

But in the second round, Jaismine found her rhythm. She adjusted her style, used her long reach effectively, and kept Szeremeta at a distance with her jab. Her crisp punches and tighter defense impressed all the judges. From there, Jaismine stayed in control. She combined smart footwork with powerful combinations, leaving her opponent frustrated.

When the final bell rang, Jaismine showed rare emotion. She raised her hand, shouted in joy, and then hugged her opponent. During the medal ceremony, she was visibly emotional as the Indian national anthem played, marking the proudest moment of her career so far.

Nupur Sheoran Wins Silver

In another final, Nupur Sheoran competed in the heavyweight category (80+kg). She faced Agata Kaczmarska of Poland and had to settle for silver after a close 2-3 defeat.

Nupur began the fight strongly, using her height advantage to throw long punches. But Kaczmarska responded with aggressive counters, slipping past Nupur’s defense and landing hard body shots. As the rounds progressed, Nupur became hesitant to attack, while Kaczmarska grew more confident.

The Polish boxer even forced Nupur onto the canvas during an exchange. The deciding moment came in the final round when Kaczmarska landed a sharp uppercut that sealed the win. It was Kaczmarska’s first world title, while Nupur earned a respectable silver.

Pooja Rani Signs Off With Bronze

Veteran Indian boxer Pooja Rani, fighting in the 80kg category, ended her campaign with a bronze medal. She lost her semifinal match to Emily Asquith of England by a 1-4 split decision.

Pooja, 34, began well and took the lead in the opening round with her measured punches. But Asquith quickly changed her approach, pressing forward with sharp counters and faster footwork. As the bout continued, Asquith’s energy and accuracy proved too much for the experienced Indian, who had to settle for third place on the podium.

Historic Achievement for Indian Boxing

Jaismine’s golden run adds another proud chapter to India’s boxing history. She now stands alongside greats like:

* Mary Kom – six-time World Champion (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2018)

* Nikhat Zareen – two-time World Champion (2022, 2023)

* Sarita Devi – 2006 champion

* Jenny RL, Lekha KC – 2006 champions

* Nitu Ghanghas, Lovlina Borgohain, Saweety Boora – 2023 champions

Her victory also showed the new strength of Indian women’s boxing, where young fighters are stepping up and proving themselves against the world’s best.

Why This Matters

For India, this was more than just medals. It proved that Indian women boxers can consistently compete at the highest international level. With the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 not far away, the performance of Jaismine, Nupur, and Pooja shows India’s growing power in the sport.

Sports experts say that Jaismine’s technical style, Nupur’s strength, and Pooja’s experience together reflect the depth of talent India now has in women’s boxing.
