On Sunday, September 14, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam and made strong statements against the Congress party, while also announcing major development projects worth ₹6,300 crore in the state.
Speaking at a public event in Mangaldoi, Darrang district, PM Modi accused the Congress of supporting people who act against India’s interests instead of backing the Indian Army. He claimed that the party protects infiltrators and anti-national forces, and said the BJP is committed to stopping them from taking land or changing the demographic balance in Assam.
“The Congress, instead of supporting the Indian Army, backs terrorists groomed by Pakistan. It protects infiltrators and anti-national forces,” Modi said, addressing the public.
He also criticized the Congress for ruling Assam for decades but building only three bridges over the Brahmaputra river. In comparison, he said, the BJP-led government has constructed six bridges in the last 10 years. The Prime Minister praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for evicting infiltrators from encroached land and ensuring that farmers can now use these lands for cultivation.
PM Modi highlighted Assam’s economic growth, saying the state’s growth rate reached 13% due to the combined efforts of the Central and State governments. He described Assam and the Northeast as crucial regions in achieving the vision of a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat.”
Major Projects Launched
During his visit, PM Modi laid the foundation stones for several health and infrastructure projects in Assam, including:
1. Healthcare Projects – With a total investment of ₹570 crore, he launched the construction of Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a nursing college, and a GNM school.
2. Bridges and Roads – The Prime Minister inaugurated the foundation for the 2.9 km Narengi-Kuruwa bridge, estimated at ₹1,200 crore, and the 118.5 km Guwahati Ring Road, connecting Kamrup, Darrang districts in Assam, and Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya, at a cost of ₹4,530 crore.
3. Refinery Projects – Later, he will inaugurate the new bamboo-based ethanol plant costing over ₹5,000 crore and the ₹7,230 crore Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit at Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district.
PM Modi arrived in Assam on Saturday evening, September 13, to attend the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika.
The Prime Minister’s visit showcased a strong focus on infrastructure, health, and economic growth in Assam while highlighting the BJP’s work in comparison to the Congress. His statements also reflected a strong political message ahead of upcoming elections, emphasizing national security, development, and regional progress.
