Dhurandhar Breaks Records, Becomes 2025's Top Grossing Film

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the high-octane spy thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, has taken the box office by storm, now recognized as the leading film of 2025. Since its release on December 5, this blockbuster has not only captivated audiences in India but also made a significant mark in international markets, officially surpassing the impressive Rs 1000 crore threshold, establishing itself as the year’s top-grossing Bollywood film.

The success of Dhurandhar is characterized by its remarkable consistency. By its third week—a period when many leading films begin to decline—this movie continued attracting crowds, achieving substantial daily earnings. The festive Christmas period contributed significantly, with an extraordinary Rs 28.60 crore collected just on the holiday, showcasing its strong popularity and audience retention.

Outstanding Weekly Growth

In its debut week, Dhurandhar kicked off with a formidable Rs 218 crore. Week two saw the film rack up another impressive Rs 261.5 crore. Contrary to the expectations of diminishing returns in its third week, it collected Rs 160.70 crore, propelling it into the exclusive Rs 1000 crore club within a mere three weeks of its premiere.

In contrast, its closest rival for the Christmas release, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, only garnered Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day in India. This stark difference in performance underscores the overwhelming success of Dhurandhar.

Ranveer Singh's Triumphant Return

Beyond the impressive figures, Dhurandhar has ignited lively discussions across social media and the industry. Viewers and critics have dubbed it a “Ranveer renaissance,” drawing parallels between his powerful performance here and his renowned roles in Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani. Singh’s portrayal has resonated deeply, serving as the film's emotional centerpiece.

The film’s effective ensemble cast, particularly Akshaye Khanna, has also contributed to its success. Khanna's unexpected dance number to Flipperachi’s FA9LA has since gone viral, marking another highlight in his successful year following his engagement in Chaava.

Dominating the Competition

With its current earnings, Dhurandhar has now overtaken Kantara Chapter 1, solidifying its status as the highest-grossing Indian movie of 2025. Analysts attribute its phenomenal performance to an appealing combination of high production values, engaging storytelling, and the charisma of its stars.

Bold and ambitious, Dhurandhar has established a new standard for Bollywood blockbusters. Furthermore, its journey is nowhere near its conclusion, as the creators have already set the second part for a theatrical release in March 2026, hinting at even more thrills and action ahead.
