Investigating the Red Fort Blast: Delhi Police Focus on Drivers and Vehicles

Investigating the Red Fort Blast: Delhi Police Focus on Drivers and Vehicles

Post by : Rameen Ariff

New Delhi: In a determined effort to uncover the full extent of the devastating car explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on November 10, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has ramped up its investigation, tracing vehicles and interrogating drivers present at the scene. This violent explosion resulted in 13 fatalities, injured over 20 individuals, and damaged numerous vehicles in the busy area surrounding Red Fort Metro Station.

Authorities have compiled a thorough list of all vehicles that accessed the nearby parking lot where Dr. Umar Nabi's Hyundai i20 had been parked for more than three hours prior to the incident. Investigators are tracing the registration numbers of these vehicles and interviewing their drivers and owners to see if anyone observed the car and its occupants during that pivotal time period.

“Every driver who was around at that time is being traced to find out if they spotted the HR-26 vehicle, how many individuals were inside, and if anyone else accompanied Umar,” a source revealed. Investigators have also circulated Umar Nabi’s photograph among witnesses to ascertain if he was alone in the car or if others entered or exited during that three-hour span. The central goal is to reconstruct the timeline of events and determine whether the explosive device was planted within the car in the parking lot or brought from another location.

Meanwhile, agencies are also examining the roles of Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and other doctors associated with Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. Investigators report that around 15 doctors with regular connections to Dr. Ganaie are currently untraceable. Call detail records revealed numerous contacts between Dr. Ganaie and several associates. Attempts to reach these individuals were thwarted as their phones were switched off, and a team dispatched to Al Falah University confirmed that most were missing. Authorities are investigating possible links to the planning or logistics of the alleged terror plot.

The explosion at the Red Fort followed a significant bust earlier the same day, during which agencies dismantled a “white collar terror module” operating in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. The raid led to the seizure of 2,900 kilograms of explosives and the apprehension of eight individuals, including three doctors.

The Delhi Police has registered a separate FIR under criminal conspiracy to delve deeper into the motives and connections behind the explosion. The earlier FIR, filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), has been referred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further examination.

Investigators are meticulously piecing together the chronological events that led to the catastrophe at the Red Fort. By combining eyewitness testimonies, vehicle tracking, forensic examinations, and digital communications, the authorities aim to fully dismantle the network implicated in this tragic act of terror and ensure that all responsible parties face justice.

The explosion at the Red Fort has stunned the national capital, prompting urgent discussions on public safety and the potential involvement of organized terror networks camouflaging themselves within professional or educational institutions. The ongoing investigation highlights the dedication of Delhi Police to upholding accountability and safeguarding public interests following one of the city’s most alarming attacks in recent history.
