Toronto Police Announce $25K Reward for Fairview Mall Shooter

Toronto Police Announce $25K Reward for Fairview Mall Shooter

Post by : Shweta

Toronto's police department has unveiled a reward reaching up to $25,000 linked to a shooting incident at Fairview Mall, intensifying their quest for a suspect believed to be responsible for numerous violent offenses. The incident, characterized by officials as a “senseless” act, has sparked significant concerns regarding public safety.

Identified as Kyle Douglas Prouse, the suspect is wanted in connection with a robbery committed on April 21. Investigators report that the 53-year-old entered the mall shortly after its doors opened, aiming to rob a jewelry store. The confrontation with a security guard led to the guard being shot.

After fleeing the scene in a white van—which has since been recovered—the suspect reportedly switched vehicles to a black sedan to continue his escape. Law enforcement believes this act is part of a series of crime activities rather than a standalone incident.

Authorities disclosed that Prouse has been linked to at least six other robberies and break-ins across Ontario and Quebec since the beginning of 2023, targeting both banks and jewelry retailers. His actions indicate a troubling trend of escalating danger, prompting a priority for his apprehension.

During a recent press conference, police cautioned the public that this suspect could present a significant threat. They have shared surveillance images and recordings over several years to aid in his identification and capture. The police urge anyone with useful information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

The reward, facilitated through Crime Stoppers, will be available until June 30, 2026. Authorities stressed that aiding the suspect in avoiding capture could lead to criminal repercussions.

Officials advised the public not to approach the suspect if spotted but to immediately contact emergency services. Additionally, they’ve openly called for the suspect to surrender, stating that this would be the safest option.

The impact of the shooting resonates deeply within the community, heightening fears surrounding safety in public areas. Investigative teams are diligently working to secure the suspect's arrest and ensure the safety of the public.
