Royal Thai Air Force marked its 88th anniversary on April 9, celebrating decades of service, development, and dedication to national security. The day is observed as Royal Thai Air Force Day, commemorating the official establishment of the force in 1937.
The origins of aviation in Thailand date back to February 2, 1911, during the reign of King Rama VI, when the country witnessed its first airplane demonstration. This milestone inspired the formation of the Aviation Department under the Ministry of Defense. Three pioneering officers were sent to France to study aviation, later becoming known as the founding fathers of the Royal Thai Air Force.
Over the years, the Air Force has grown from a small aviation unit into a modern military force. It has participated in several major conflicts, including World War I, the Indochina War, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, playing a significant role in both national defense and international cooperation.
Today, the Royal Thai Air Force continues to evolve with advanced technology and skilled personnel. It remains committed to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and supporting the public in times of need, reinforcing its role as a vital pillar of Thailand’s defense system.
