Marco Rubio Engages with Bulgarian PM in Key Discussion

Marco Rubio Engages with Bulgarian PM in Key Discussion

Post by : Shweta

On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a significant phone discussion with Bulgarian Prime Minister Andrey Gurov, conveying his thanks for Bulgaria's enduring support and collaboration with the United States on essential security and strategic issues.

During their conversation, Secretary Rubio acknowledged Bulgaria’s vital assistance in the evacuation of American citizens and diplomatic personnel from the Middle East, viewing this cooperation as crucial for the safety of U.S. nationals amidst escalating regional tensions.

The talk further explored defense and security collaborations between the two nations. Secretary Rubio commended Bulgaria for its commitment to increasing defense spending and enhancing military capabilities through acquisitions of U.S. defense technology. These actions form part of a broader strategy to bolster regional security and strengthen European alliances.

Energy cooperation emerged as another pivotal component of their dialogue. Rubio expressed support for Bulgaria’s endorsement of the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative, which is designed to enhance Europe’s energy security by providing alternative gas supply routes. This venture also opens doors for U.S. liquefied natural gas exports, facilitating energy diversification and easing reliance on limited suppliers.

Both leaders reiterated the significance of ongoing partnership in security, defense, and energy sectors. The call highlighted the robust and expanding relationship between the United States and Bulgaria, focusing on their collective efforts in tackling regional challenges and fostering stability.
