Russian drone strikes targeted Kyiv, causing the deaths of four people and injuring at least 19 others, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks began just before midnight and left significant damage to residential buildings, public infrastructure, and essential services in the Ukrainian capital.
Among the deceased was an emergency medical responder who had arrived at the scene to assist after a suburban apartment was hit by two drones in quick succession. Several members of his team were injured during this incident. Officials confirmed that the strikes affected multiple parts of the city, including two apartment buildings located on the east bank of the Dnipro River. One of these buildings suffered the destruction of an entire entrance, while a high-rise in the central district sustained heavy damage.
The drone attacks also disrupted critical infrastructure, with reports indicating interruptions to the water supply in several districts. Fires broke out in various parts of the city as a result of the strikes. One drone ignited a blaze inside a shopping center, while another drone fell near a medical facility, raising serious concerns about safety and emergency response capabilities. City officials confirmed that the fires were controlled but caused additional distress to local residents.
The capital was placed under an air raid alert for nearly five hours, as emergency services and the military scrambled to respond to the attacks and prevent further damage. Rescue teams were deployed quickly to assist those injured and to manage the fires sparked by the drone strikes.
In total, at least 19 people were injured, with 14 individuals receiving treatment in hospitals. The health and safety of residents continue to be a priority as officials assess the full extent of the damage.
Meanwhile, in western Ukraine, another Russian attack struck an infrastructure target in the Lviv region, further escalating tensions and raising fears of continued aggression across the country.
The recent drone strikes highlight the ongoing security challenges Kyiv faces as it endures repeated attacks on civilian areas and vital infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities continue to emphasize the importance of vigilance and preparedness as they work to protect the city and its inhabitants from further harm.
