A tragic road accident in Scarborough has resulted in the death of a 21-year-old motorcyclist, prompting an ongoing inquiry by the Toronto Police Service. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:05 p.m. at the intersection of Danforth Avenue and Byng Avenue.

Reports indicate that the collision involved a motorcycle and a Toyota Highlander SUV. Authorities state that the SUV was traveling eastbound on Danforth Avenue and attempted a left turn into a plaza, colliding with the westbound motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. Unfortunately, the 21-year-old motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead despite medical interventions. The identity of the deceased has not yet been made public.

The SUV driver remained at the scene following the accident and has been fully cooperating with the investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed, and it's too soon to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigators are also assessing whether external factors such as road or weather conditions may have played a role in the collision, though no definitive conclusions have been reached.

In the aftermath of the accident, part of Danforth Avenue has been closed between Byng Avenue and Robinson Avenue to facilitate a thorough examination of the scene and evidence gathering by law enforcement. Traffic Services continues to investigate and is seeking public assistance.

Police encourage anyone who witnessed the crash or possesses dashcam footage from the vicinity to step forward, as this could be crucial for understanding the circumstances of the accident. Strong concerns regarding motorcycle safety have been raised, emphasizing the need for vigilance among all drivers to avert similar tragic incidents.

The investigation is ongoing, with updates anticipated as new information emerges.
