During a recent event in Hyderabad, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed his passion for South Indian films. He was present at the unveiling of the Tollywood Pro League (TPL), a key venture merging cricket and entertainment within the Telugu film sector.
At the gathering, Sehwag praised celebrated actors like Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, and Prabhas. “Mahesh Babu is my favorite Telugu star; I also admire Allu Arjun and Prabhas. I've watched Baahubali several times. Now that I'm enjoying my retirement, I've got nothing to do!” he joked.
Although he loves South Indian cinema, Sehwag prefers watching films dubbed in Hindi, as he doesn't grasp Tamil or Telugu. He even fondly recalled a well-known line from Pushpa, “saala jhukega nahi” (I won’t back down), and humorously reenacted it in Telugu with the host Nikhil's assistance.
The TPL launch was spearheaded by producer Dil Raju and was attended by cricket legends Kapil Dev and Suresh Raina.
Sehwag's remarks highlight his admiration for some of the biggest talents in Telugu cinema. Mahesh Babu recently appeared in Guntur Kaaram (2024) and is currently filming SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Allu Arjun gained fame with Pushpa: The Rise (2021) and Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024), which has emerged as a box office hit. He is now engaged in a new project directed by Atlee alongside Deepika Padukone. Prabhas, renowned for Kalki 2898 AD (2024), which amassed over ₹1,042 crore globally, is gearing up for multiple future releases, including The Raja Saab, Spirit, and Fauzi.
Sehwag’s enthusiasm for films shows a captivating side of the cricketer, portraying that even after departing from the cricketing world, he embraces life passionately through cinema.
