Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi has passed an administrative decree to create the “Sharjah Design Council,” a forward-thinking initiative designed to bolster the emirate's design sector and foster growth in its creative industries.
The announcement aligns with the vision of the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ), which is dedicated to drawing in creative talent, international brands, and contemporary design practices to the emirate.
As part of this initiative, SCQ will initiate “Sharjah Design Days,” a focused platform set to unite designers, creatives, and industry experts from all over the globe. The platform aims to cultivate Sharjah’s design ecosystem, amplifying its presence both regionally and globally.
The Council's mandate includes the development of targeted programs and initiatives aimed at establishing a sustainable creative landscape within the emirate. It will also work to bolster Sharjah's reputation as a premier regional hub for design and cultural industries.
The council intends to forge partnerships at both regional and international levels in design-related sectors, while also aiding fledgling and established designers through educational and training opportunities. It aims to spark innovation and creative production across various design domains.
Among its core functions, the council will formulate strategies and policies pertinent to the design sector, oversee program implementation, and host exhibitions, showcases, and specialized events.
Moreover, the council plans to introduce sustainable practices in prototype design and manufacturing, further contributing to Sharjah’s long-term aspiration to emerge as a key center of creativity and cultural growth within the region.
