Sheikh Dr. Sultan Chairs Kalba University Board Meeting, Endorses Future Plans

On Monday, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Council Member, convened the University of Kalba Board of Trustees at the institution's main office.

Encouraging Progress Recognized

His Highness commended the notable advancements achieved by the University of Kalba in recent years. He acknowledged the university's accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and expanding collaborations. His gratitude extended to the board members, leadership, and committees for their unwavering commitment to enhancing the university.

Significance of Specialized Institutions

The Ruler elaborated on the evolution of higher education in the emirate, beginning with the University of Sharjah and American University of Sharjah. He stressed the necessity of developing specialized institutions across various regions, including sports sciences in Kalba and marine sciences in Khorfakkan, aimed at benefiting local communities.

Strategic Plan for 2026-2031 Approved

The Board sanctioned a strategic plan for the University of Kalba for the years 2026–2031, targeting:

  • Enhancing institutional efficiency and sustainability

  • Boosting research and innovation

  • Improving student employability

  • Expanding international partnerships

  • Facilitating digital transformation and ongoing education

  • Encouraging community involvement and wellness

Leadership Appointments Announced

The Board confirmed Dr George Nassis as the new Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and appointed two new deans for the Colleges of Business Administration and Computing & Intelligent Systems.

Introduction of New Academic Programs

The Board also approved a fresh biology program centered on living organisms. They reviewed updates on accreditation for new Bachelor of Science degrees, including:

  • Sports Rehabilitation

  • Sports Nutrition and Wellness

  • Esports and Interactive Technologies

  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

In addition, two specialized tracks were unveiled within the Physical Education and Sports Sciences program:

  • Physical Education

  • Sports Coaching and Management

Reviewing Milestones

Dr Najwa Al Hosani, Chancellor of the University of Kalba, presented an overview of significant achievements from the last academic cycle, which encompassed areas such as academia, research effectiveness, and digital transformation.

Additionally, the Board examined reports from its various committees, including those focusing on academics, finance, audits, and development, approving several recommendations to foster future growth.

Exhibition Highlights Student Work

Following the meeting, His Highness toured a student exhibition displaying accomplishments in sports, literature, and academics, as well as student involvement in an international sports science conference held in Switzerland.
