Actor Shia LaBeouf has been ordered by a New Orleans judge to return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation after being charged with two counts of battery stemming from an alleged assault during Mardi Gras celebrations.
The 39-year-old actor was taken into custody on February 17 in the French Quarter area of New Orleans, following an altercation outside a bar. According to police reports, LaBeouf allegedly struck multiple individuals with a closed fist, dislocating one victim’s nose. Authorities also allege he used homophobic slurs during the incident.
At a court hearing in Orleans Parish Criminal Court, Judge Simone Levine set LaBeouf’s bond at $100,000 and ordered him to undergo weekly drug testing, including an immediate test at the courthouse. His attorney stated that the test did not show illegal substances in his system.
Judge Levine expressed concern about public safety and the seriousness of the allegations, particularly in reference to reported slurs directed toward members of the LGBTQ+ community. She also ordered LaBeouf to stay away from the alleged victims and the bar where the incident occurred.
LaBeouf was initially released without bond shortly after his arrest, but the judge later said she had not yet reviewed the full police report at that time. Video footage of the altercation has reportedly surfaced, showing the actor striking multiple individuals.
The judge denied LaBeouf’s request to travel to Rome in March, citing concerns about his ability to comply with court conditions. He has not yet entered a formal plea in the case.
LaBeouf declined to comment extensively to reporters after posting bond, briefly stating, “God bless you, leave me alone.”
The case adds to a series of legal and personal challenges the actor has faced in recent years, including prior public struggles with alcohol addiction and legal disputes
