Canadian authorities have announced a significant seizure of contraband at Collins Bay Institution, a federal prison, conducted between April 1 and April 9, 2026. The operation was executed by staff from Correctional Service Canada.
According to reports, enhanced monitoring and vigilance allowed staff to intercept several packages containing illicit materials. The confiscated items comprised various drugs, including marijuana, crystal meth, hashish, and a cannabis concentrate known as “shatter.” Furthermore, officials seized tobacco, drug paraphernalia, a knife, and multiple mobile phones along with their accessories.
The total estimated value of the confiscated items stands at approximately $1.1 million, signifying the extent of the smuggling attempt. Officials stressed the serious risks posed by such contraband to inmates and staff security.
To combat the entry of illegal items, Correctional Service Canada employs advanced security strategies, including ion scanners for drug detection and trained dogs to inspect facilities, visitors, and personal belongings. These measures are part of a comprehensive effort to ensure tight control over prohibited goods within the institution.
The agency has bolstered collaboration with law enforcement to investigate and address individuals involved in smuggling. Officials underlined the importance of thwarting contraband to maintain a secure environment in correctional institutions.
Additionally, the agency has set up a confidential tip line for the public to report any suspicious activities affecting prison security. This toll-free service allows individuals to share information anonymously, aiding authorities in responding effectively to issues like drug trafficking and smuggling of unauthorized items.
Officials affirmed their commitment to closely monitor the situation and implement necessary measures to ensure the safety and efficient operation of correctional facilities nationwide.
