Singaporean Man Arrested in Bali After Woman Found Dead

Post by : Badri Ariffin

A Singaporean man has been arrested in Bali after a 26-year-old woman was found dead inside a rental unit, Indonesian police confirmed on Thursday.

The suspect, identified only by the initials MZ, was taken into custody less than three hours after the incident. According to a post shared by the Denpasar police on their official social media account, a joint police team carried out the arrest shortly after the case was reported.

Police Say Victim and Suspect Were in a Relationship

Police said the victim was a 26-year-old woman from Central Java. A police spokesperson stated that she had been in a relationship with the suspect for about one year.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly attacked the woman after acting out of resentment. According to the spokesperson, the suspect is believed to have strangled the victim for about 15 minutes.

Immigration Records Show Tourist Overstayed Since 2025

The police spokesperson said immigration records showed that the suspect had entered Bali as a tourist. Authorities also found that he had overstayed his permitted stay since 2025.

Victim's Brother Found the Body

According to Indonesian news outlet Detiknews, the victim's younger brother went to the rental unit after he was unable to contact his sister.

When he arrived, he noticed a strong foul smell coming from the property. He reportedly asked the suspect about his sister's whereabouts, but the suspect did not respond. The suspect then left the scene on a motorcycle.

After the suspect fled, the victim's brother entered the property and found his sister's body.

Witness Shares Details With Police

Another witness, identified only as DP, told investigators that she had recently started dating the suspect after meeting him at a billiards outlet in Denpasar where she worked, according to CNN Indonesia.

She told police that she had also noticed a bad smell when she visited the rental unit. When she later questioned the suspect about the odour, he allegedly became angry.

Singapore's Foreign Ministry Contacted

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been contacted for more information regarding the arrest.
