Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has been named in the first-ever Barbie Dream Team announced by toy manufacturer Mattel ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8. The initiative celebrates women who are breaking barriers and inspiring young girls around the world through their achievements.
Mandhana, who serves as vice-captain of the India women’s national cricket team, joins several globally recognized figures in the special list. The Dream Team includes tennis legend Serena Williams, space researcher Kellie Gerardi, Mexican racing driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado and England footballer Chloe Kelly, along with other influential women from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Poland and Australia.
The Barbie Dream Team campaign is designed to highlight role models across different fields and encourage girls to pursue their ambitions. Mattel said the initiative aims to celebrate women whose journeys and accomplishments can motivate the next generation to dream big and challenge stereotypes.
Reacting to the recognition, Mandhana said the honor was a proud and emotional moment. She shared that seeing a Barbie doll inspired by her journey was something she never imagined while growing up. According to her, if her story encourages even one young girl to take up cricket or pursue her passion, it would be deeply meaningful.
Mandhana has been one of the most prominent faces in women’s cricket in recent years. She has played a key role for India across formats and has also been a star performer in franchise leagues. Earlier this year, she captained Royal Challengers Bangalore Women to their second Women’s Premier League title after a thrilling chase against Delhi Capitals Women.
The Barbie Dream Team recognition adds another milestone to Mandhana’s career and reflects the growing global influence of women athletes. Mattel said the initiative is intended to celebrate women who are shaping the future and inspiring young girls through determination, talent and leadership.
