Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha recently shared a heartfelt insight into her relationship with husband Zaheer Iqbal, revealing never-before-told details about their journey from friendship to marriage. Appearing on the latest episode of Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle on Prime Video, Sonakshi appeared alongside ace designer Manish Malhotra, where the conversation shifted from fashion and fame to deeply personal reflections.
What began as a light-hearted chat quickly turned into one of the most memorable moments of the show when Sonakshi spoke candidly about her love life and her emotional wedding in 2024. Her sincerity and warmth struck a chord with viewers, offering a rare glimpse behind the glamour of Bollywood’s power couple.
Talking about the moment she met Zaheer, Sonakshi described it as a connection that felt “instant and undeniable.” The actress shared,
“When I saw him, it was an instant click. I just knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this guy. In a month, I told him I’m going to marry you only — and seven years later, we did get married.”
The couple’s bond, which started as a close friendship, gradually blossomed into a deep and enduring relationship. Sonakshi and Zaheer, who had known each other since 2017, reportedly met through mutual friends from the industry. Over the years, their chemistry was often spotted in social media posts and at Bollywood gatherings, though both chose to remain private about their relationship until the wedding.
Sonakshi and Zaheer tied the knot on June 23, 2024, in a ceremony that blended simplicity, tradition, and emotional depth. The date wasn’t random — it was the same day they had first spent quality time together in 2017 during the screening and afterparty of Salman Khan’s film Tubelight.
Sharing why they chose that date, Sonakshi revealed that the moment held sentimental value for both, marking the beginning of their lifelong connection. Their wedding was held in Mumbai, surrounded by close family and a few select friends, followed by a glamorous reception attended by some of Bollywood’s biggest names, including Salman Khan, Rekha, Huma Qureshi, Manish Malhotra, and Daisy Shah.
However, despite the star-studded guest list, the event’s heart lay in its simplicity. “We wanted the wedding to reflect who we are — not the spectacle that people expect,” Sonakshi said in the interview.
One of the most talked-about details from Sonakshi’s wedding was her minimal, elegant bridal look — a far cry from the heavily styled celebrity weddings Bollywood is known for. The actress took complete control of her wedding outfit, opting for something personal and timeless rather than designer couture.
“This was always a vision I had for myself,” she explained. “I wanted to wear something that I could remember for the rest of my life. So, I decided to wear my mom’s sari.”
Sonakshi recounted how she chose the outfit in just minutes. “I went to my mom and told her, ‘Ma, just show me your saris.’ Within five minutes, I selected the sari that I wore — a beautiful chikankari, off-white piece.”
Her understated bridal look quickly went viral on social media, drawing praise for its emotional value and classic charm. Fans appreciated her decision to break away from over-the-top fashion trends, celebrating her for embracing authenticity and family connection.
Those close to the couple often describe their relationship as one rooted in friendship, laughter, and mutual respect. Zaheer, who made his Bollywood debut in Notebook (2019), shares Sonakshi’s grounded nature and sense of humor. The couple’s chemistry has also been visible off-screen — from candid vacation photos to heartfelt social media posts.
Insiders say the couple’s families share a warm bond as well. Sonakshi’s parents, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, were initially surprised by their daughter’s low-key wedding plans but later expressed joy and pride in her choice.
Since their wedding, Sonakshi and Zaheer have kept a low public profile, focusing on work and family life. Sonakshi, who was last seen in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, continues to explore diverse roles in OTT and cinema, while Zaheer is working on upcoming film projects and brand collaborations.
Their love story — from instant connection to a seven-year journey culminating in marriage — continues to resonate with fans who see them as a refreshing example of real connection in an industry often dominated by spectacle.
As Sonakshi summed up beautifully during the show,
“Love doesn’t need to be loud or dramatic. It just needs to be true. And ours always was.”
