SpiceJet Flight Safely Diverts to Kolkata Due to Engine Issue

SpiceJet Flight Safely Diverts to Kolkata Due to Engine Issue

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A SpiceJet flight journeying from Mumbai to Kolkata executed a successful emergency landing late Sunday after the crew reported a technical glitch in one of its engines, confirmed airport officials. Flight SG670, with over 170 passengers onboard, landed at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 11:38 pm following a full emergency declaration from the pilot.

Reports indicate that no passengers or crew members were injured, and the emergency condition was resolved shortly after landing. Emergency response teams were fully prepared to ensure the safety of everyone aboard during this occurrence.

The pilot noticed unusual engine performance just before the descent phase and promptly notified air traffic control. SpiceJet has initiated an internal review to uncover the specifics behind the engine malfunction.

Kolkata Airport officials stated, “The flight landed safely, and the full emergency was lifted at 11:38 pm.”

This incident follows recent operational disturbances at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which impacted over 100 flights due to an Air Traffic Control (ATC) failure. SpiceJet had earlier informed passengers about potential delays, advising them to check for updates on spicejet.com due to ATC congestion.

The airline has faced similar technical difficulties in the past. On September 12, a Q400 aircraft traveling from Kandla to Mumbai made an emergency landing after losing an outer wheel during takeoff. That flight also landed safely without any reported injuries.

SpiceJet reiterates that it adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) during emergency landings to prioritize the safety of all passengers.

Passengers aboard Flight SG670 were confirmed to be safe, and normal flight operations resumed after the emergency.
