This Christmas brought a mix of joy and nostalgia for Samaira and Kiaan, the children of the late business mogul Sunjay Kapur and actress Karisma Kapoor. As they celebrated the holiday with the Pataudi clan, the siblings chose to commemorate their father in a heartfelt manner.
Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan shared moments from their celebration on social media, showcasing a beautifully adorned Christmas tree featuring an ornament that read, “Christmas at the Pataudis.” There was also a poignant photo of Samaira and Kiaan, captured from behind, both donned in matching polo jerseys from their father’s polo team. Kareena affectionately referred to them as her “Christmas angels,” a sentiment that resonated with many.
The jerseys had a deep significance, representing Aureus Polo, the polo team established and led by Sunjay Kapur, which garnered accolades in India, the U.S., and the U.K. By wearing these jerseys, Samaira and Kiaan seemed to connect with their father’s passion and legacy, especially during a festive time that highlights his absence.
Sunjay Kapur tragically passed away on June 12, 2025, at age 53, during a polo match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, U.K. It was later discovered that he had succumbed to an anaphylactic shock after accidentally ingesting a bee that had stung him in the mouth. His unexpected demise shocked many within business and sports communities.
Sunjay's life was under considerable public scrutiny. He first tied the knot with fashion designer Nandita Mahtani before marrying Karisma Kapoor in 2003, becoming parents to Samaira in 2005 and Kiaan in 2010. However, they underwent a lengthy separation starting in 2016. In 2017, he remarried Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son named Azarius.
In the wake of Sunjay Kapur's death, legal disputes surfaced regarding his considerable estate. Karisma Kapoor approached the Delhi High Court, alleging that a will had been forged. These claims were refuted by Priya Sachdev's legal representatives. Additionally, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, raised concerns about the transparency of her son’s financial assets. The Delhi High Court recently wrapped up hearings on the matter, with the ruling anticipated to play a crucial role in the inheritance conflict.
In a backdrop of legal struggles and public narratives, the image of Samaira and Kiaan in their father’s polo jerseys offers a poignant reminder of love and remembrance. Their tribute this Christmas spoke volumes about their enduring connection with their dad amidst loss.
