A major aviation incident was reported at Indira Gandhi International Airport after a Swiss International Air Lines flight was forced to cancel its takeoff due to an engine fire. The flight, which was scheduled to travel from New Delhi to Zurich, had already begun acceleration on the runway when the issue occurred.
According to initial reports, one of the aircraft’s engines caught fire during the takeoff roll. The crew immediately identified the problem and took quick action to abort the takeoff, preventing a potentially more serious situation. The pilot followed emergency protocols and brought the aircraft to a safe stop on the runway.
Following the incident, an emergency evacuation was initiated. Passengers were quickly guided out of the aircraft using evacuation procedures. Airport emergency teams, including fire and rescue services, responded promptly to control the situation and ensure passenger safety.
At least six passengers were reported injured during the evacuation process. Most injuries were described as minor, caused by panic and the urgency of the evacuation. Medical teams at the airport provided immediate assistance, and the injured were taken for further treatment as a precaution.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the engine failure and fire. Technical teams are expected to examine the aircraft in detail to determine whether the incident was due to mechanical issues, maintenance concerns, or other operational factors.
Airport operations were temporarily affected as safety checks were carried out following the incident. However, officials confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control and normal operations resumed shortly after.
This incident highlights the importance of strict safety protocols in aviation. Experts note that timely action by the flight crew and emergency responders played a crucial role in preventing a more serious outcome and ensuring the safety of all passengers on board.
