Thai Food Documentary Wins US Award

Thai Food Documentary Wins US Award

Post by : Shakul

Thailand is celebrating a major international achievement after the documentary Tasteful Thailand won the prestigious Best Documentary award at the Telly Awards in the United States. The recognition has been described by Thai officials as an important milestone in promoting the country’s cultural identity and culinary soft power on the global stage.

According to the Thai government, the documentary was produced through a successful collaboration between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Chinese technology company Tencent. The project aimed to present Thai cuisine not only as delicious food but also as a reflection of Thailand’s traditions, regional diversity, culture and local lifestyle.

Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, said the achievement has become a proud moment for both Thailand and its people. She explained that the documentary successfully captured the charm of Thai food, the warmth of local communities and the unique cultural identity found across different parts of the country.

The documentary was released on the popular streaming platform WeTV and quickly gained attention for its storytelling and cinematic presentation of Thai gastronomy. Through vibrant visuals and authentic local experiences, the series introduced international audiences to Thailand’s food heritage and culinary traditions.

The Telly Awards, established in 1979 in the United States, are considered one of the most respected honors in television and video production. Every year, more than 13,000 entries from across six continents compete in various categories, making the award highly competitive and internationally recognized.

Thai officials believe the success of “Tasteful Thailand” will help strengthen the country’s image as one of the world’s leading gastronomy tourism destinations. Authorities hope the documentary will inspire more international travelers to visit Thailand and experience its cuisine, culture and hospitality firsthand.

Experts say Thailand has increasingly used food, entertainment and cultural storytelling as part of its soft power strategy to attract tourism and boost its international profile. The global popularity of Thai cuisine continues to play a major role in promoting the country’s economy and cultural influence worldwide.
