Thailand and China reaffirmed their strong diplomatic and cultural relationship during the “China Tourism Day, May 19” event held at the China Cultural Center in Bangkok. The event also marked the opening ceremony of the fourth “I Want to Go to China” Creative Short Video Contest, bringing together tourism officials, diplomats and industry representatives from both countries.
Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, attended the ceremony and delivered a keynote speech highlighting the importance of tourism in strengthening relations between Thailand and China. Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jianwei, Tourism Authority of Thailand officials and tourism business leaders were also present at the event.
Surasak described the gathering as a strong reflection of the long-standing friendship between the two nations. He referred to the famous phrase that Thailand and China are “brothers, not strangers,” saying tourism and culture continue to connect people from both countries in meaningful ways.
Tourism Cooperation and Regional Growth
The minister said 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, calling it “50 Golden Years of Friendship.” He explained that both countries have expanded practical cooperation in tourism, trade and regional development over the years.
Thailand and China have worked together to simplify visa procedures, expand international flight routes and improve tourist safety measures. Officials also highlighted the role of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement in supporting tourism and digital economy cooperation across borders.
Surasak thanked the China National Tourism Administration in Bangkok for continuously organizing events that help Thai people experience Chinese culture and tourism opportunities. He said the activities inspire more Thai travelers to visit China and strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries.
Thailand Ready to Welcome Chinese Tourists
The Thai government reaffirmed its readiness to welcome Chinese tourists under the “Amazing Thailand” campaign. Officials said Thailand remains one of the most popular travel destinations for Chinese visitors because of its natural beauty, cultural heritage and modern tourism facilities.
Surasak emphasized that Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports will continue cooperating closely with Chinese partners to expand tourism, strengthen regional economic recovery and deepen cultural exchange. He added that stronger tourism cooperation would play a major role in boosting economic growth and friendship between the people of both nations.
