Post by : Rameen Ariff

The much-anticipated horror comedy Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has opened to a smashing ₹25.11 crore on its first day at the domestic box office. Produced by Maddock Films, the movie is the fifth installment in the popular Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) and has already captured the audience’s imagination nationwide. The production house shared the day-one collection on its official social media, celebrating the film’s thrilling reception among moviegoers.

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and written by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara, Thamma blends horror, comedy, and romance, offering a fresh narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The film’s unique storyline follows Alok Goyal, portrayed by Ayushmann Khurrana, a journalist whose life turns upside down after a mysterious encounter with Tadaka, an otherworldly woman played by Rashmika Mandanna. Alok transforms into a vampire-like Betaal and must confront Yakshasan, an ancient Betaal bound for over a century who seeks freedom and dominion over the world.

The movie also stars veteran actors Paresh Rawal and Geeta Agarwal Sharma as Alok’s parents, adding depth to the film’s engaging plot. Thamma’s day-one box office success highlights the growing popularity of horror-comedy in India, particularly the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which has previously delivered hits like Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2. With ₹25.11 crore already collected on opening day, Thamma is poised to continue its strong performance in the coming days.

Fans and critics alike have praised Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna for their charismatic performances, which bring both humor and horror to life seamlessly. Maddock Films has announced that the franchise will continue to expand, with upcoming releases including Shakti Shalini, Bhediya 2, Chamunda, Stree 3, Maha Munjya, culminating in Pehla Mahayudh and Doosara Mahayudh. This ongoing expansion underscores the immense popularity and fan anticipation for each installment, setting the stage for continued box office successes.

With a captivating storyline, strong performances, and ₹25.11 crore collected on day one, Thamma proves the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe remains one of the most successful and beloved film franchises in India. Audiences can expect a thrilling cinematic experience that perfectly balances horror, comedy, and emotion, ensuring that Thamma’s journey at the box office will be closely watched and celebrated across the country
