Prabhas’ eagerly anticipated horror-comedy The Raja Saab has made a significant splash at the box office, once again proving the actor's broad appeal across audiences. Despite receiving unfavorable reviews, the film exceeded the ₹100 crore benchmark worldwide on its opening day, inclusive of Thursday’s previews.
Early figures from trade tracking platform Sacnilk.com indicate that The Raja Saab garnered around ₹26 crore from international markets on its first day. In India, the film secured an impressive ₹54 crore in net collections, alongside ₹9 crore from paid previews, totaling its worldwide Day 1 collection to over ₹100 crore gross.
This strong debut underscores Prabhas’ box office magnetism, even as he ventures into a different genre. In The Raja Saab, the actor portrays a hypnotist, diverging from his usual action-oriented roles.
Previous Release Comparison
Though The Raja Saab has delivered remarkable opening statistics, it doesn’t surpass the record set by Prabhas’ previous film, Kalki 2898 AD. This 2024 sci-fi venture amassed a staggering ₹191 crore on its Day 1, securing its status as one of the greatest openers in Indian cinema.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh previously stated that Kalki 2898 AD generated ₹27.5 crore from its Hindi version alone upon release. Despite a clash with a major India vs England cricket semi-final, the film fared exceptionally across all areas and concluded its theatrical run with approximately ₹1100 crore worldwide.
Impact on Other Box Office Releases
The debut of The Raja Saab has notably impacted the performance of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. After a successful run exceeding a month, and amassing over ₹1200 crore globally, Dhurandhar is seeing a reduction in earnings.
In its 36th day, Dhurandhar could only manage to collect ₹3.5 crore, indicating the influence of The Raja Saab’s theatrical release.
About The Raja Saab
Directed by Maruthi and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under People Media Factory, The Raja Saab features a prominent cast including Prabhas, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab.
Discussing the film, Prabhas mentioned that the intention behind The Raja Saab was to create a thorough entertainer rather than just another action film. He commended director Maruthi’s writing, singling out the climax as one of the film’s strongest aspects. The actor also expressed optimism for the film's performance during the festive Sankranti period.
According to an HT review, while The Raja Saab attempts to provide entertainment through a blend of comedy and horror, it struggles with depth and originality. The review pointed out that the horror-comedy genre has been previously explored in Indian cinema, and the narrative could benefit from stronger storytelling to make a lasting impression.
