As we dive into the second week of May, a new wave of films and series is ready to hit OTT platforms across India. From adrenaline-fueled action dramas to gripping crime stories, a host of eagerly awaited titles will be available for streaming between May 12 and May 17. With stars like Ranveer Singh, Saif Ali Khan, and Randeep Hooda leading the way, these projects promise to draw in large audiences, capitalizing on the growing trend of home-viewing.
Kicking off the week’s excitement is Dhurandhar: The Revenge, popularly known as “Dhurandhar 2.” Led by Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, this action-laden spy thriller, which previously dominated theaters, is set for its OTT debut on JioHotstar on May 15.
The plot revolves around an undercover Indian agent entangled in perilous missions tied to terrorism and organized crime. Packed with dynamic action sequences, emotional depth, and themes of patriotism, the film features a stellar cast including R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun. Fans of the genre are keenly anticipating its online release following its significant theatrical performance.
Also premiering this week is Kartavya, a compelling crime drama featuring Saif Ali Khan as a policeman grappling with the dichotomy of duty and personal life. Produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Pulkit, it is set to stream on Netflix starting May 15.
The movie’s trailer has already ignited enthusiasm with its gripping emotional narrative. Saif portrays a dedicated officer who is also a devotee of Lord Mahadev, navigating complex moral dilemmas while safeguarding his family. The film additionally features noteworthy performances from Rasika Dugal and Sanjay Mishra, positioning it as a potential highlight of this year’s crime genre.
Fans of crime thrillers are eagerly awaiting the return of Inspector Avinash Season 2, which makes its comeback after a brief hiatus. Starring Randeep Hooda as the titular officer Avinash Mishra, the series follows his confrontations with dangerous criminals and gangsters in Uttar Pradesh. Drawing inspiration from real events in the 1990s, the show has gained a reputation for its gritty plotlines and electrifying action. The new season will stream on JioHotstar from May 15.
Reports indicate that Season 2 will present Avinash facing heightened threats and intricate scenarios. The trailer hints at challenges that test his resolve amidst crime, politics, and corruption. Co-starring Urvashi Rautela, Amit Sial, and Shalin Bhanot, this season promises intense performances and spectacular action sequences.
In addition to the Hindi offerings, Tamil drama series “Exam” is slated for release on Prime Video this week. This poignant series delves into the pressures and emotional battles students face in preparation for competitive exams. Crafted by the acclaimed filmmaker A. Sarkunam, it strives to encapsulate the mental strain and societal expectations tied to academics and triumph.
The creators believe the series will resonate deeply with both youth and parents, addressing one of the most considerable challenges students face today in India.
Netflix is introducing a compelling true-crime documentary titled “The Crash.” This gripping feature recounts a heartbreaking real-life incident in Ohio from 2022, where a teenager purposefully crashed her vehicle into a building at an alarming speed, resulting in the tragic deaths of two young boys.
The case garnered significant media attention, and this documentary explores the details, investigation, and court proceedings surrounding this tragedy. Crime documentary enthusiasts are anticipated to closely follow this release.
The surging popularity of OTT platforms is reshaping how audiences engage with entertainment in India and beyond. Viewers can now enjoy films and series instantly on streaming services instead of waiting for TV broadcasts or cinema releases. Major platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar are significantly investing in original content to lure subscribers.
In recent years, there has been a remarkable increase in the appetite for crime thrillers, action-packed dramas, and authentic narratives. As competition among streaming services heats up, audiences gain access to grander productions and a wider array of storytelling.
This week’s OTT offerings brim with a plethora of genres including action, crime, thrillers, emotional dramas, and insightful documentaries. Whether you're drawn to high-stakes police dramas, thrilling spy narratives, or touching social tales, there's ample content to satisfy varied tastes.
