A shooting incident in New York's Times Square caused panic among hundreds of tourists and visitors on Thursday afternoon after several gunshots were heard in one of the city's busiest locations. Authorities confirmed that one person was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Incident Occurred During Crowded Afternoon

According to officials, the shooting took place around 3:40 p.m. local time. The area was heavily crowded following celebrations linked to the New York Knicks' recent NBA championship victory. Thousands of visitors and football fans were also present in the city due to the ongoing FIFA World Cup activities.

People Ran For Cover

Videos circulating on social media showed people running in different directions moments after the sound of gunfire echoed through Times Square. Tourists, workers and pedestrians were seen scrambling for cover as confusion spread across the crowded streets.

Police Quickly Responded

The New York Police Department responded immediately to the situation. Officers already deployed in the area quickly moved toward the scene and pursued the suspected individuals. Witnesses reported seeing police officers chasing suspects through nearby streets shortly after the shooting.
