A tragic hotel fire in New Delhi has led to the loss of at least 21 lives and left more than 40 people injured, as reports from Delhi Police indicate.
The incident occurred in the morning at Flourish Stay, a bed-and-breakfast situated in a crowded area of south Delhi. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations, battling flames that rapidly engulfed the property.
Authorities confirmed that 21 individuals perished in this devastating event. Search and rescue missions were ongoing through the day, ensuring that no one was trapped within the hotel.
More than 40 injured individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical attention. Reports indicate that many victims were international visitors from Africa, who were in New Delhi for medical services.
The fire was eventually controlled thanks to the deployment of eight fire engines. Officials confirmed that various agencies remained on-site to assist victims and their families during this difficult time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He characterized the incident as deeply unfortunate and offered his support to those affected.
The precise cause of the fire is currently unknown, and an investigation has been initiated to uncover the factors that contributed to the outbreak.
Building fires are a significant issue in India, often stemming from safety lapses and electrical failures. Electrical short circuits, linked to poor wiring maintenance, frequently lead to such tragedies.
Authorities are expected to provide more updates as the investigation unfolds.
