On Thursday, around 12:50 PM local time, a tragic accident occurred as a small aircraft crashed near Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland. Confirmed reports indicate that the pilot was the sole occupant of the plane during the flight.
Emergency responders, including Coast Guard Rescue 117, were swiftly dispatched to the crash site as the plane was making its approach to Waterford Airport. Following the crash, the pilot’s body was transported to University Hospital Waterford.
The aircraft, identified as a Vulcanair P68C, was operating a flight from Sligo to Beziers in France. According to reports, the plane made a U-turn off the southern coast of Ireland before the fatal incident occurred.
The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) performed an initial site examination on Thursday and plans to send a team of four inspectors back to the location on Friday for a more thorough investigation.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the specific factors that led to the crash. Officials have stated that there were no additional passengers onboard, and safety protocols are currently under review as part of the investigation.
