Two catastrophic road accidents unfolded on Sunday in Andhra Pradesh, claiming six lives and injuring sixteen. These incidents occurred on busy highways and involved several vehicles, including a Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV), a private bus, and trucks, prompting urgent responses from local authorities.
**Srikakulam Tragedy: Four Pilgrims Killed in MUV Incident**
The first mishap took place early Sunday in Srikakulam district, close to Yetturallapadu village on the national highway. A Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) carrying pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh rear-ended a stationary truck. The pilgrims were en route to the revered Srisailam temple after visiting Puri in Odisha.
Initial police investigations indicate that the MUV driver may have dozed off, resulting in the tragic collision. Four devotees lost their lives instantly: Santoshi Bai (62), Vijay Singh Tomar (65), Singh Pawar (60), and Kusal Singh (62).
The remaining sixteen passengers in the MUV were injured and swiftly transported to the government hospital in Narsannapet for medical care. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
**Nandyal Incident: Bus Hits Two Trucks, Resulting in More Casualties**
The second accident occurred the same day in Nandyal district, near Perayapalem village. A private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Puducherry collided with two trucks, first hitting one and then being struck by another.
This severe crash resulted in the immediate deaths of two passengers seated in the rear. Additionally, ten others were injured, with four reported in critical condition. Emergency units responded swiftly to assist the affected individuals.
Local law enforcement has initiated an investigation into the factors that led to this collision, examining driver testimonials and vehicle conditions to ascertain details surrounding the tragedy.
**Concerns Over Road Safety Amidst Ongoing Investigations**
These unfortunate events have sparked serious discussions about road safety and driver vigilance on Andhra Pradesh's busy highways, particularly with fatigue and human error emerging as potential causes for the Srikakulam accident. Authorities are urging drivers to take adequate breaks during long trips.
The Andhra Pradesh police and highway patrol units are conducting comprehensive inquiries into both incidents to unravel the full particulars and ensure accountability. Care and support for the injured are ongoing, and local officials are extending assistance to the victims' families.
