Trump Announces Maduro's Capture Amidst U.S. Military Strikes in Venezuela

Trump Announces Maduro's Capture Amidst U.S. Military Strikes in Venezuela

Post by : Saif Rahman

A significant upheaval rocked Latin America on Saturday as U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had been captured following a series of American military strikes overnight. This announcement has ignited fear, confusion, and widespread concern both within Venezuela and beyond.

According to President Trump, the U.S. executed extensive strikes aimed at Venezuela’s government and its leadership. In a post released online, Trump stated that Maduro and his spouse were taken by U.S. forces and transported out of the nation. He hailed the mission as a successful endeavor involving elite special forces in coordination with U.S. law enforcement. A comprehensive briefing was promised later today.

The strikes reportedly occurred in the early morning hours, with explosions reported throughout the capital, Caracas, and neighboring regions. Citizens shared videos of thick black smoke rising, helicopters overhead, and occasional bursts of light followed by loud booms. Many expressed deep fear and bewilderment due to the scant information from authorities.

As of yet, the Venezuelan government has not confirmed Maduro's capture. Nonetheless, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino vehemently denied any claim of foreign troop presence. In a televised address, he stated that Venezuela would resist what he termed an assault on its sovereignty, calling for unity among citizens and military personnel to defend the nation, asserting that foreign intervention leads only to pain and devastation.

Citizens experienced a night filled with dread, with reports of planes flying at varying altitudes followed by explosions. Some noted power outages near military installations. Many expressed uncertainty about the situation, relying solely on state media and social platforms for updates.

The U.S. has long accused Maduro of corrupt governance, alleged ties to drug traffickers, and electoral fraud. Trump has continuously insisted that Maduro relinquish power, while Maduro has consistently denied these allegations, accusing Washington of seeking control over Venezuela’s vast oil resources.

This action represents the most direct military intervention by the U.S. in Latin America in decades. Many countries in the region harbor painful recollections of previous interventions and are vocally against such actions. Even governments critical of Maduro express unease regarding direct foreign military engagement.

Venezuela's allies, including Cuba and Iran, promptly condemned the strikes. Iran termed the assault a blatant violation of international law, urging the United Nations to intervene. Legal experts have raised questions regarding the authority under which the U.S. executed these strikes, especially as similar operations have resulted in significant casualties in recent months.

The situation remains precarious and undefined. With no official word from Venezuelan authorities regarding Maduro's fate, and strong reactions both locally and globally, the next few days will be crucial. The outcome may significantly influence not only Venezuela's future but also the stability of the entire region.
