The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Japan, A. Bayramov, held an important diplomatic meeting with Princess Takamado, a member of Japan’s Imperial Family, in Tokyo on May 20, 2026. The meeting highlighted the growing friendship and strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan across multiple sectors.
According to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides praised the current state of bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The talks focused on expanding mutual understanding and promoting deeper people-to-people connections between the two nations.
During the meeting, the Turkmen side expressed appreciation for Princess Takamado’s role in supporting international friendship and cultural dialogue. Officials stated that Turkmenistan continues to place strong importance on maintaining close and respectful ties with Japan under the leadership of the country’s president.
The discussions also highlighted the historical importance of the two meetings held in 2025 between the President of Turkmenistan and Japan’s Emperor Naruhito. Diplomats described those meetings as a major step forward in boosting high-level interstate cooperation and long-term strategic partnership between the countries.
Humanitarian cooperation formed another major topic during the talks. Princess Takamado received information about the activities of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow Charitable Foundation, which supports children in need of guardianship and social care. Turkmen representatives emphasized the country’s commitment to humanitarian values and youth welfare initiatives.
Both parties also explored future cooperation opportunities in education, sports, environmental protection and modern green energy technologies. The meeting reflected shared interests in sustainable development and peaceful international collaboration.
Diplomatic observers say the growing partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan demonstrates a broader effort by both nations to strengthen ties through cultural exchange, technological cooperation and humanitarian engagement in Asia and beyond.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing readiness to continue expanding bilateral relations in strategically important areas while maintaining strong diplomatic and cultural dialogue in the coming years.
