Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE Minister of State and Envoy to the EU, has expressed the nation’s endorsement of the European Parliament’s vigorous endeavor to put an end to the civil war plaguing Sudan. She reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to assisting international and regional initiatives focused on halting this catastrophic conflict. The UAE is actively collaborating with partners, especially within European bodies, to foster security, stability, and sustainable development for the Sudanese populace.
Nusseibeh's remarks underscored the significant acknowledgment of the Quad's role as the primary mediation group addressing the Sudan crisis, as reinforced by the European Parliament's resolution. This recognition bolsters the Quad's standing as the key diplomatic avenue uniting global stakeholders striving to cease hostilities in Sudan. It amplifies ongoing peace endeavors and escalates global pressure on the factions involved in the conflict.
Furthermore, Nusseibeh referred to the Quad’s Joint Statement as a pivotal moment on the path toward ending the violence. The outlined roadmap involves initiating a humanitarian ceasefire, transitioning to a civilian-led government free from extremist influence, particularly that of the Muslim Brotherhood, which poses a risk to peace and stability. She highlighted that only a civilian-governed structure could revitalize Sudan’s institutions and eradicate extremism from its political scene.
Nusseibeh firmly condemned the grave abuses committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Port Sudan Authority, asserting that their violent conduct has inflicted severe harm on civilians and jeopardized Sudan's future. She called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all factions to discontinue all forms of violence without hesitation.
The UAE’s stance remains unwavering: an unconditional ceasefire in Sudan is imperative, alongside unrestricted humanitarian access across the country. Nusseibeh reiterated that the UAE’s response is driven by a humanitarian approach, underlining that aiding the Sudanese people remains a priority. The UAE will persist in facilitating aid through all viable channels.
A recent report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) spotlighted the UAE's significant humanitarian efforts in Sudan, having contributed USD 784 million since the onset of the conflict. This positions the UAE as the second-largest donor after the United States and the top donor for the year 2025. Such contributions reflect the UAE's steadfast commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by the Sudanese people and supporting aid operations throughout this critical crisis.
Nusseibeh’s comments emphasize the UAE’s conviction that global cooperation is vital for resolving the Sudan conflict. The backing of mediation initiatives by the European Parliament, alongside a realistic peace roadmap from the Quad, fosters new hope for progress. The UAE stands resolutely with the Sudanese population, advocating for peace, stability, and humanitarian support at every level.
