The United Arab Emirates has welcomed the recent agreement aimed at ending the Gaza war and the launch of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza Peace Plan. The UAE urged all parties involved to strictly abide by the terms of the agreement to ensure lasting peace.
In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the agreement an important step towards achieving a comprehensive and just peace that safeguards the rights of the Palestinian people. The statement also highlighted the key roles of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in mediating the deal and expressed hope that the agreement would end the suffering of residents in the Gaza Strip.
The UAE Ministry urged both sides to exercise self-restraint, commit to the terms, and work diligently to resume a political process that could lead to a two-state solution. It reaffirmed the UAE’s support for all regional and international efforts aimed at ending the conflict while emphasizing the urgent need for unrestricted humanitarian aid to reach Palestinians in the Strip.
According to Egypt's state-affiliated Qahera TV, the ceasefire officially came into effect around noon local time (0900 GMT) after the two sides signed the agreement in Sharm el-Sheikh. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the ceasefire would take full effect once ratified by the Israeli cabinet, which was scheduled to meet later in the evening. Around the time of the signing, residents in Gaza reported a series of air strikes in Gaza City.
Under the terms of the agreement, active fighting will cease, Israel will partially withdraw from Gaza, and Hamas will release hostages captured during the conflict in exchange for prisoners held by Israel. This marks the first phase of a broader plan aimed at stabilizing the region and laying the groundwork for long-term peace in Gaza.
The UAE’s support reflects its commitment to peace in the Middle East and its focus on facilitating humanitarian relief and diplomatic efforts in the region.
