The United Arab Emirates is poised to deepen its ties with Belize as Omar Shehadeh, the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs' Envoy, embarked on an official visit emphasizing potential trade and investment agreements. This diplomatic mission aims to forge partnerships across strategic sectors, ensuring a robust long-term collaboration.
Accompanied by His Excellency Salem Rashed Al Owais, the UAE's Non-Resident Ambassador to Belize, Shehadeh engaged in productive discussions with Prime Minister John Briceño and CEO Amalia Mai from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Discussions revolved around enhancing bilateral ties and pinpointing collaborative areas of mutual interest, particularly digital advancements and the prospective UAE–CARICOM Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
At the end of the visit, Shehadeh expressed that the dialogue underscored the solid foundation of UAE-Belize relations. He highlighted that the proposed UAE–CARICOM CEPA is a gateway to broaden trade engagements while facilitating sustainable economic growth. Commitment to collaborative frameworks with Belize and other regional partners was reiterated.
The delegation also reviewed strategies on how CEPA can bolster business relationships, drive investments, boost economic collaboration, and pave the way for sustainable progress within the Caribbean.
Additionally, the trip provided an opportunity to promote notable forthcoming global events spearheaded by the UAE. Invitations were offered for participation in high-profile gatherings, including the 2026 United Nations Water Conference that the UAE will co-host with Senegal.
Shehadeh underscored the significance of this conference in fostering global dialogue on water security and sustainability, particularly focusing on the needs of Small Island Developing States in the Caribbean.
The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to nurturing ever-stronger bilateral ties and advancing cooperative ventures vital for economic development and shared prosperity in the Caribbean.
