UAE President’s Cup at Doncaster: Historic Arabian Horse Race with £400K Prize

Post by : Raman

This Saturday, the historic Doncaster Racecourse in the United Kingdom will host a grand and exciting event as part of the UAE President’s Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses. This is the 13th round of the Cup’s 32nd edition. Often called the crown jewel of the series, this race brings together some of the finest Arabian horses from across Europe and the Middle East. With a record-breaking prize purse and top-level competition, fans can expect one of the most thrilling horse racing spectacles of the year.

The Legacy of the UAE President’s Cup

The UAE President’s Cup was started more than 30 years ago to protect and celebrate the heritage of Arabian horses. Known for their strength, beauty, and loyalty, Arabian horses are one of the oldest and most respected breeds in the world.

The Cup has played a vital role in supporting horse owners, breeders, and trainers while keeping Arabian horses in the global spotlight. Over the years, it has become one of the most prestigious horse racing series internationally.

Why Doncaster is Special

While every round of the Cup is important, the UK round at Doncaster holds a unique place. This race is part of the St. Leger Festival, one of Britain’s oldest and most famous racing festivals. Being included in such a historic event gives the UAE President’s Cup a special platform to showcase Arabian horses alongside some of the best thoroughbred races.

This year, the UK round has been called a “Clash of the Strongest” because it brings together young colts and fillies from Britain, France, and Qatar. These horses are racing not only for the prize but also for glory, pride, and the chance to prove themselves as future champions.

Record Prize Money

The 2025 UK round will offer the largest prize money ever for Arabian horse racing in Britain and Europe. The total purse is £400,000, a new record. Classified as a Group 1 event, the race will be run over 2,000 meters (1.24 miles). Winning this race is about more than just money — it is about making history in Arabian horse racing.

The Contenders

Eight exceptional horses will compete at Doncaster, representing some of Europe’s and the Middle East’s most respected stables:

  1. Libeau de Carrere (France) – Trained by Alban de Mieulle with jockey Mickael Barzalona, this horse is a strong favorite from Wathnan Racing.

  2. Moneer (France) – Another star from Wathnan Racing, trained by Damien de Watrigant and ridden by Jean-Bernard Eyquem.

  3. Al Dhiib (Qatar) – From Al Shaqab Racing, trained by Thomas Fourcy with jockey Faleh Bughenaim, returning to defend their legacy.

  4. Sheehan (Qatar) – Trained by Francois Rohaut and ridden by Tom Marquand, a strong competitor bred for speed and stamina.

  5. Lino (France) – A horse with high expectations, trained by Eric Dell’ova and ridden by Olivier Peslier, who has previous UK round wins.

  6. Murakib (UK) – Representing the UK, trained by Okba Ashour with jockey Ray Dawson.

  7. Madaoui (UK) – Trained by Charlie Wallis and ridden by George Wood, a promising UK contender.

  8. Hibkinada de Mazieres (UK) – Trained by James Owen with jockey Marco Ghiani, ready to surprise if the opportunity arises.

Organizers Highlight the Importance

Aref Hamad Al Awani, from the Higher Committee of the UAE President’s Cup Series, said: “The UK round represents the summit of the annual calendar for this prestigious series. It reflects our valuable partnerships with iconic races and historic tracks. Being part of the St. Leger Festival shows the prestige of the UAE President’s Cup, which has led the way for 32 years as one of the most distinguished classic races worldwide.”

What Makes This Event Unique

  • Global Participation: Horses from France, Qatar, and the UK compete in an international contest.

  • Record Prize Money: £400,000 is the highest in Arabian racing history for Europe and Britain.

  • Historic Venue: Doncaster Racecourse is one of the world’s oldest racecourses.

  • Cultural Bridge: The Cup connects UAE heritage with international sporting traditions.

The Excitement Ahead

Fans, breeders, and horse racing enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for Saturday’s race. Each horse in this lineup is talented and prepared, but only one will take home the historic crown and the largest share of the prize money.

The UAE President’s Cup is more than a race — it is a celebration of the Arabian horse, symbolizing pride, tradition, and sporting excellence. With this Doncaster round, that celebration is set to reach new heights.

This event promises to be remembered as one of the most exciting moments in the Arabian horse racing calendar, bringing together history, talent, and international competition in a single spectacular race.
