UAE Flag Hoisted in French Alps for Eid Al Etihad

UAE Flag Hoisted in French Alps for Eid Al Etihad

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a remarkable blend of national pride and ambition, skiers from the UAE raised the flag, along with portraits of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, at a peak in the French Alps. This act was part of the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ initiative, symbolizing Emirati resolve and excellence.

Traversing from Desert to Snow

Coinciding with the 54th Eid Al Etihad, the journey, tagged ‘From Desert Dunes to Snowy Peaks,’ captures the UAE’s evolution from modest beginnings to a position of global significance. This undertaking resulted from collaboration between Brand Dubai, the creative division of the Government of Dubai Media Office, and the UAE Skiers Academy, reinforcing the Year of the Community and the nation's values of unity.

This expedition marked the first collaboration in 14 years between the UAE Skiers Academy and a government body to achieve this challenging trek. Included in the team were a father and his sons, exemplifying the spirit of community and shared national pride.

Extensive Training for a Noteworthy Climb

Ten elite skiers underwent rigorous training to acclimatize to the severe Alpine environment. The expedition began in Dubai, followed by a 10-hour flight to Geneva and a subsequent 220-kilometre drive to the Valtourance resort, navigating steep curves and climbs. The team faced temperatures ranging from -3°C to -9°C to summit over 3,300 metres.

At the summit, they displayed a 3x1-metre portrait of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid alongside the UAE flag. The national anthem resonated through the snow-covered landscape, with the team capturing this historic moment on camera, symbolizing patriotism, dedication, and the UAE's aspirations.

Fostering National Spirit and Humanitarian Values

Initiated 14 years ago, the ‘Our Flag at the Summit’ project inspires Emirati youth to excel and embody national principles through sports and humanitarian endeavors, by positioning the UAE flag on distinguished peaks worldwide. This initiative underscores the nation's commitment to leadership, creativity, and philanthropy.

The French Alps expedition exemplifies the UAE’s steadfast dedication to national pride, collaboration, and ambition—demonstrating that Emiratis are prepared to face challenges and represent their values on global stages.
