Dubai: Skywatchers in the UAE are in for a treat as the first of three Supermoons of 2025 will light up the night sky on Wednesday. The Dubai Astronomy Group has announced a special public viewing session at Al-Awir Second Park from 7 pm to 9 pm, with the Supermoon expected to appear at its brightest around 8:15 pm.
This phenomenon, known as the Hunter Supermoon, will appear about 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual, marking the beginning of the winter season. The increased size and brightness occur when the Moon reaches its perigee, the closest point to Earth in its orbit.
The name “Hunter Supermoon” comes from ancient traditions, symbolizing the time of year when hunters prepared for the winter season.
Following this, stargazers in the UAE can look forward to two more dazzling events. The Beaver Moon will illuminate the skies on November 5, named after the season when beavers build their shelters for winter. The Cold Moon, reflecting the chilly nights of December, will be visible on December 4.
Astronomy enthusiasts and families are encouraged to join the Dubai Astronomy Group’s event for an unforgettable opportunity to observe the Supermoon in Dubai and learn more about the wonders of space
