UAE Introduces Comprehensive Program for Enhancing Children's Mental Health

UAE Introduces Comprehensive Program for Enhancing Children's Mental Health

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Zayed Authority for People of Determination has introduced a pivotal initiative aimed at bolstering children’s mental health throughout the UAE. This new effort is part of the Ulfah Program, orchestrated by the National Academy for Childhood Development in collaboration with SAKINA, a specialized mental health network operating under SEHA, part of PureHealth.

This unified initiative combines efforts from multiple organizations to foster a robust framework for psychological support among children. It underscores the UAE’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and fostering a healthier, more resilient community.

Emphasis on Early Mental Health Intervention

The program primarily focuses on children falling within the age group of 0 to 6 years, which is a crucial period for emotional and mental growth. It offers a plethora of programs aimed at children, parents, educators, and the broader community.

These initiatives encompass:

  • Interactive workshops and learning sessions

  • Sensory play and early developmental initiatives

  • Artistic and musical therapy

  • Activities aimed at emotional and social skill enhancement

  • Mindfulness sessions and emotional regulation workshops

The implementation of digital tools grounded in contemporary therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is also a significant aspect for preserving children’s mental wellness.

Empowering Families

A fundamental element of this initiative is the empowerment of families. Parents and caregivers will be provided with:

  • Guidance on effective parenting practices

  • Training focused on child behavior management

  • Support aimed at enhancing family communication

  • Access to professional consultations and peer support

Both online and in-person program options ensure accessibility for all families.

Special Consideration for Children of Determination

This initiative pays special attention to the Children of Determination, ensuring their inclusion and development. Services provided include:

  • Early developmental evaluations

  • Occupational therapy sessions

  • Speech and language therapy services

  • Behavioral support initiatives

Training will also be provided to families and caregivers to support children with special needs effectively.

Creating a Supportive Community Framework

The initiative collaborates with schools, educators, and health professionals to cultivate a conducive environment for children. Awareness campaigns and training programs aim to enhance support systems across the community.

Insight from Leadership

Officials have emphasized that investing in children’s mental health is essentially an investment in the future. They reiterated the significance of early intervention strategies, preventative measures, and creating robust family support networks to foster confident growth in children.

A Significant Step Towards Improvement

This initiative epitomizes the UAE’s vision to enhance community wellness by ensuring children thrive in safe and supportive surroundings. By integrating expert knowledge, family backing, and innovative tools, the program aspires to nurture a generation that is emotionally resilient and equipped to face future challenges.
