Lyon, France – During the One Health Summit in Lyon, France, the UAE articulated the dire global implications of persistent regional conflicts, pinpointing threats to health, the environment, and food security. Convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit saw participation from state leaders, over 30 ministers, and representatives from key international organizations.
In representation of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, UAE Minister of Health and Prevention, denounced the ongoing “illegal, unjustifiable, and unprovoked attacks” within the region, noting the deployment of over 2,700 drones and missiles that threaten human lives, vital infrastructure, and environmental integrity. He underscored the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, stressing that disruption in one domain reverberates across all.
Al Sayegh described these assaults as “a war against the health of every nation, family, and ecosystem,” emphasizing the necessity for integrative, prevention-focused health security initiatives. He urged the expansion of the One Health framework to address not only zoonotic threats but also environmental hazards like air pollution, which exacerbate chronic disease trends globally.
Throughout the summit, Al Sayegh engaged with various world leaders, such as President Dramani Mahama of Ghana, President Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana, and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia, enhancing global cooperation on mutual health challenges. He also held vital discussions with delegations from Indonesia, Italy, and South Korea to reinforce collaborative efforts across health and related domains.
The UAE reiterated its dedication to actionable, science-driven solutions through the One Health and Beyond Declaration, working alongside the One Health Centre of Excellence Global Network, and promoting a cohesive strategy to safeguard human, animal, and environmental health amid regional security uncertainties.
