UK France and Germany Say Ready to Back US Against Iran as Regional Tensions Rise

UK France and Germany Say Ready to Back US Against Iran as Regional Tensions Rise

Post by : Shakul

Britain, France and Germany have announced they are prepared to coordinate closely with the United States and regional partners to counter Iran’s retaliatory military actions, as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East. The leaders described Iran’s recent missile and drone attacks on allied bases as “reckless” and a threat to their own citizens and military personnel deployed in the region.

In a joint statement, Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz said they are appalled by the scale of the attacks and are ready to take necessary and proportionate defensive measures to protect their interests and those of their allies. These actions could include measures aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to launch missiles and drones at their source.

The European allies emphasized their willingness to work with the US and regional partners to address the situation, though specific military plans or deployments were not disclosed. The statement underscored that any action would be defensive and aimed at protecting personnel and civilians, not escalating the conflict further.

This development comes amid a broader international reaction to Iran’s region-spanning strikes after recent US and Israeli operations inside Iran. The situation has already drawn responses from other world powers, including calls for calm and diplomatic solutions from nations such as China, which has urged preventing the conflict from spreading further.

European leaders have made clear they do not seek to enter an offensive war, but are ready to support defensive actions that mitigate threats from Iranian missile and drone capabilities. Their joint stance reflects growing concern over regional instability and the potential impact on global security.
