On Tuesday, the United Nations Security Council condemned the drone strike on the Barakah Nuclear Facility in the UAE, characterizing it as a severe breach of international law that poses risks to civilian safety, essential infrastructure, and environmental health.
In an official declaration, the Security Council called for a swift and lasting halt to all assaults on civilians and civilian infrastructures within the UAE. The body emphasized that any threats or attacks on peaceful nuclear establishments are intolerable and threaten both regional and global security.
The Council described the incident as undermining the fundamental principles that preserve international peace and stability. It reiterated that those behind the attack, including groups operating through proxy means, must face accountability for their actions.
Furthermore, the Security Council expressed its unwavering support for the UAE's sovereignty, security, and regional stability.
Recently, the UAE reported that six drones were launched toward the country from Iraq. According to local authorities, one drone sparked a fire at the Barakah Nuclear Facility, heightening concerns regarding the safety of civil nuclear operations in the region.
The Barakah Nuclear Facility stands as one of the UAE’s pivotal energy projects, significantly contributing to the nation’s peaceful nuclear energy initiative.
