2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival: A Celebration of Heritage and Innovation

2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival: A Celebration of Heritage and Innovation

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club has unveiled the comprehensive schedule for the upcoming 2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival, set to occur between 10 and 18 January 2026. The event promises to be an exhilarating blend of Emirati maritime heritage and contemporary marine sports over a span of nine thrilling days.

This festival will host five distinct marine championships aimed at celebrating Abu Dhabi’s rich history with the sea while enhancing the city’s reputation as a prime destination for global marine competitions. By fusing traditional races with modern formats, the event is crafted to attract a diverse mix of participants, fans, and professionals from near and far.

One of the most eagerly awaited features includes the traditional dhow sailing races. The Abu Al Abyad Dhow Sailing Race in the 60ft category and Hudayriyat Dhow Sailing Race in the 22ft category will spotlight the skill, endurance, and teamwork that have shaped Emirati sailing over the years. These races are a testament to the UAE’s enduring maritime culture, where sailing goes beyond mere recreation to embody a way of life.

Complementing the traditional events, the festival will feature the Al Alya Traditional Bawaneesh Sailing Race, showcasing 12-foot dhows. Known for its competitive spirit and rich cultural background, this race provides a venue for sailors to exhibit their precision and expertise under challenging conditions that merge technique with heritage.

Community engagement is paramount at this festival. The Abu Dhabi Women’s Fishing Championship, taking place on 10 January, underscores the increasing participation of women in marine sports and encourages broader involvement in fishing and other competitive marine activities.

Wrapping up the festival, the UAE Formula 4 Powerboat Championship will occur on 17 and 18 January, adding a contemporary edge to the traditional races. This fast-paced event promises to captivate a newer audience of marine sports enthusiasts with its thrilling competition and technical excellence.

With its extensive agenda, the 2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival positions the capital as a vibrant hub for marine sports, skillfully melding tradition with innovation while illuminating the UAE’s profound relationship with the sea.
