On July 7, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed a series of targeted military strikes against Iran. This operation involved precision airstrikes on more than 80 locations, initiated after Iran's aggressive actions against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM reported that the focus of the strikes was on critical Iranian military infrastructure, which included air defense systems, command centers, coastal radar installations, and anti-ship missile systems.
Additionally, U.S. forces engaged over 60 small boats belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) operating near the strategic waterway.
The primary aim of the attack, as stated by CENTCOM, was to diminish Iran's capacity to threaten international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, deemed a vital artery for global trade.
CENTCOM highlighted that three commercial vessels recently fell victim to Iranian attacks while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. The identified vessels were:
The command condemned the vessel attacks as unprovoked and labeled them a serious breach of the ceasefire, jeopardizing free navigation within this key maritime corridor.
CENTCOM affirmed that U.S. forces are stationed and prepared to address any further violations of the ceasefire by Iran, although they refrained from detailing any assessments regarding damage or casualties from the strikes.
