The United States has launched an innovative approach to commercial diplomacy, aimed at fortifying support for U.S. businesses and broadening their international prospects. Assistant Secretary of State Caleb Orr unveiled the initiative during a meeting with business leaders in New York City, underscoring efforts to enhance economic engagement on a global scale.
At an event organized by the Manhattan Institute, Orr highlighted the debut of the Commercial Diplomacy Enterprise (CDE), a collaborative strategy intended to streamline how the U.S. government assists its companies overseas. This initiative harmonizes existing frameworks while introducing new mechanisms for U.S. businesses to gain a competitive edge in international markets.
According to officials, the State Department has played a crucial role in facilitating over $432 billion in business achievements for U.S. firms since January 2025, resulting in more than 1.2 million jobs. The newly established CDE is slated to build on this success by expediting support and unveiling new avenues in critical global sectors.
The Commercial Diplomacy Enterprise is focused on promoting U.S. economic interests by aiding firms in maneuvering foreign markets, pinpointing investment chances, and securing key contracts. By enhancing collaboration among government agencies, the initiative seeks to provide more uniform and effective assistance for American companies abroad.
Orr also announced the creation of a new online platform via the Office of Commercial and Business Affairs during the event. This resource will enable U.S. companies to register for alerts regarding strategic investment opportunities overseas, ensuring they remain informed and competitive in a dynamic global economy.
This initiative reflects the United States' overarching commitment to placing economic diplomacy at the forefront of its global strategy, with an emphasis on job creation, business development, and strengthening the nation's economic standing worldwide.
