The Maharashtra government has launched an emergency WhatsApp helpline to assist residents stranded in Middle Eastern countries amid the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
State officials said the helpline was activated after receiving reports that several hundred people from Maharashtra were unable to return home due to widespread flight cancellations and airspace closures across the Gulf region. The service will help coordinate with Indian embassies, airlines and local authorities to provide updates on evacuation flights and travel advisories.
Authorities have urged stranded residents to share their passport details, current location and contact information via the official WhatsApp number released by the state administration. The government said it is in continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure safe return arrangements if the situation worsens.
Officials added that further assistance measures, including possible evacuation coordination, will depend on developments in the region. The Maharashtra government has assured families that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates through official channels.
