Punjabi Actor and Bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman Dies at 41

Renowned Punjabi actor and professional bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman passed away on Thursday following a heart attack at a private hospital in Amritsar. The 41-year-old actor and fitness icon was widely known for his remarkable physique and dedication to a vegetarian lifestyle.

According to his family, Ghuman had been complaining of shoulder pain and went to a hospital for treatment, where his condition worsened. His nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, told reporters in Jalandhar that the actor suffered a heart attack in the evening while at the hospital.

A Fitness Icon Remembered

Born in Gurdaspur and residing in Jalandhar, Varinder Ghuman was a respected name in the world of bodybuilding and cinema. Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches, he earned the title of Mr India in 2009 and secured second place in the Mr Asia competition, making India proud on the international stage.

Ghuman made his Bollywood debut with “Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans” (2014) and later appeared in “Marjaavan” (2019). He also acted alongside Salman Khan in “Tiger 3” (2023), which brought him wider recognition. His role in the Punjabi film “Kabaddi Once Again” (2012) also showcased his versatility as an actor.

Aside from acting, Ghuman was passionate about promoting fitness and a vegetarian diet. He regularly shared workout routines and motivational fitness content with his followers on Instagram, inspiring many young people to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Dreams Beyond Fitness

The bodybuilder-turned-actor had also shown interest in public service. Recently, he had expressed his wish to contest the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027, highlighting his desire to give back to society.

Leaders across political parties expressed their grief and paid heartfelt tributes to Varinder Ghuman.

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu called him the “Pride of Punjab” and “the He-Man of India.” He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Passing away of the pride of Punjab, Varinder Ghuman ji, is an irreparable loss for the country. He set new standards in fitness with his hard work and vegetarian lifestyle. His life will continue to inspire generations.”

Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also mourned his passing, saying, “It is heartbreaking to hear about the sudden demise of Punjab’s famous bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman. He brought glory to Punjab with his discipline and talent. May Waheguru bless his soul and give strength to the family.”

Congress MLA Pargat Singh described Ghuman as a man of great discipline and simplicity, saying, “He was a devoted vegetarian and built his body with grace and hard work. His passing is deeply painful.”

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed similar sorrow, calling his death a huge loss. “I am deeply saddened by the untimely passing of international bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman. He achieved great heights in life and inspired countless youths with his dedication.”

A Legacy That Will Live On

Varinder Ghuman’s sudden death due to heart attack has left his fans, friends, and the entire Punjabi film and fitness community in shock. He was not only admired for his acting but also for being a vegetarian bodybuilding champion, a rare inspiration in the world of fitness.

His journey from a small-town boy in Gurdaspur to a celebrated actor and fitness star will continue to motivate aspiring athletes and artists across India.
