Meta Data Center Accused of Contaminating Drinking Water in Georgia, EPA Launches Investigation

Post by : Shakul

Growing concerns are emerging in Morgan County after residents reported that their drinking water has become muddy and potentially unsafe following construction activity linked to a nearby Meta data center project. The issue has triggered public outrage and renewed debate over the environmental impact of large-scale AI and technology infrastructure developments.

The controversy gained national attention after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez presented jars filled with discolored water during an Environmental Protection Agency hearing in the United States. She urged federal authorities to immediately investigate whether the construction and operation of the massive data center could be affecting local groundwater and public water supplies.

Residents in the area claim their tap water changed noticeably after heavy construction work began near the Meta facility. Some families described the water as brown, cloudy and containing visible sediment, raising fears about contamination and long-term health risks.

Community members have voiced frustration over what they believe is a lack of transparency regarding environmental testing and infrastructure planning connected to the project. Many residents are now demanding independent water quality testing and stronger protections for local water systems.
