Thailand Upgrades Education Staff Benefits

Thailand Upgrades Education Staff Benefits

Post by : Shakul

The Thai government has announced a major step toward improving the welfare and quality of life of education personnel by upgrading thousands of contract workers into temporary employees under a new employment structure. Officials say the initiative is aimed at strengthening job security, increasing morale and improving working conditions for teachers and support staff across the country.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the reform is being implemented through the Office of the Basic Education Commission under the Ministry of Education. Authorities confirmed that 7,588 contract positions will be converted into temporary employment positions during the 2026 fiscal year as part of broader education sector reforms.

Deputy government spokesperson Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn stated that the policy is designed to provide teachers and educational staff with stronger legal protections, improved welfare benefits and more stable career opportunities. Officials believe that improving the lives of educators will directly contribute to better learning outcomes for students across Thailand.

Under the revised salary structure, assistant teachers holding a five-year bachelor’s degree or a graduate diploma in teaching professionalism will receive salaries of up to 19,120 baht per month. Those with four-year bachelor’s degrees will receive approximately 18,220 baht monthly. Meanwhile, teaching assistants and support personnel are expected to receive around 11,000 baht per month, including cost-of-living allowances.

Government officials explained that the adjustment reflects an effort to align compensation more fairly with educational qualifications, job responsibilities and actual work performed within schools and educational institutions. The move is also intended to reduce uncertainty faced by contract workers who previously lacked long-term employment stability.

The Ministry of Education has instructed regional education offices and related agencies to accelerate the recruitment and contract conversion process. Authorities plan to complete the transition between June 2 and September 30, 2026, ensuring that all approved personnel begin working under the updated employment system within the scheduled timeframe.

Officials stressed that recruitment and contract procedures must follow principles of transparency, fairness and accountability. Analysts say the policy could become an important step toward strengthening Thailand’s education system by improving teacher retention, boosting morale and encouraging higher standards in classrooms nationwide.
